When we are “triggered” emotionally or feeling overwhelmed and stressed, most of us run to the one thing we have counted on to tap down those uncomfortable feelings. Food! We have used food (or alcohol, nicotine,shopping…) to not deal with the real issue at hand. Those uncomfortable feelings.
We know if we change our emotional state, we no longer need to use unhealthy substances or behaviors. There are many ways to do this. I really like EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). If you can remember to use it in the moment, it works.
I find many people get caught up in worrying about the words they use when they tap and use that confusion to not do it. We have found the words you use in this situation aren’t are important as just tapping those points. The tapping can rebalance your energy system, calming you down. Once you are calm, you no longer need to use the food to feel better. It puts you back in control.
Here is another great tool to use…music! Have you ever been driving in your car and a song came on and suddenly you are in tears? Or you get a warm, fuzzy feeling because it brought up fun memories? Music has the ability to energetically change your emotional state. Music can be a great way to access and manage your emotions. When your emotions are in check, you don’t have to use unhealthy behavior to escape from them.
