Are you completely confused about what to eat? This is the situation my dear friend and client, Donna, found herself in.
Donna came to me last year in a panic. She went to her Doctor who told her her blood sugar was out of control. She increased her diabetes medication and told Donna to be stricter with her diet and exercise program. But Donna had been eating exactly the way they told her to eat, which included whole grain bread, fruits, beans, veggies and a little protein.
WAKE UP!!!! That wasn't working. Nobody would listen to her. So Donna came to me for assistance.
I put Donna on the meal plan that got her eating six small, balanced meals a day. She ate her 5 healthy, balanced "grab n go meals" and her one "lean and green" meal. Guess what??? She lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks and her blood sugar finally came down into the normal range and stabilized. She felt great, eliminated her sugar cravings, slept better and improved her mental focus.
Donna went back to the Doctor beaming with pride. Guess what the Doctor told her? She wasn't eating enough and she was losing weight too fast. I guess they thought Donna needed to stay fat and diabetic a little longer (she'd been in this condition for 25 years). What insanity!!!
Donna stayed on the my program and came to my exercise class regularly. Then she needed a surgery and had some other challenges. She slipped from her program. Donna recently found herself with a little of her weight back on but more importantly, her blood sugars were back over 200!!!! She was panicing and went back to the Doctor. You know what the Doctor told her. Go back to the diet that wasn't working.
Poor Donna was so confused at this point. The Doctor was telling her to do one thing. Then she read to do other things on the internet. What's a girl to do????
My advise to Donna was…listen to your own body. What worked for you before???
"Your balanced eating program worked for me." EXACTLY! It's not a philosopy. There's no question about it. The only question you have to ask yourself is this:
"Does it work for me or not?" It had worked for Donna when nothing else had. What else do you need to know? Go with what YOU KNOW WORKS FOR YOU!!! Be your own authority.
I saw Donna in exercise class today. It was wonderful to see her beaming again. Her blood sugar was down 100 points and she had lost 3 pounds since our talk 5 days ago.
